Employment Contracts and HR Policies: A Compliance Checklist for Employers

Employment Contracts and HR Policies: A Compliance Checklist for Employers

Most employment disputes we see could have been avoided with clearer paperwork. A well-drafted contract and a practical HR policy handbook set expectations on both sides and give employers a firm footing if a disagreement does arise.

Put terms in writing. Every employee should have a written contract that sets out their role, pay, working hours, leave and notice period.

Get statutory deductions right. Deductions and remittances must be calculated correctly and paid on time. Errors here can lead to penalties and to claims from employees.

Have a fair disciplinary process. Policies should explain how misconduct is investigated, how employees are heard and how decisions are made. Following a fair process is as important as having a valid reason for any action taken.

Build an internal dispute resolution framework. Giving staff a clear route to raise grievances internally resolves many issues before they become formal claims.

Review your documents regularly. Employment law and practice change, and policies drafted years ago may no longer reflect the law or how your business operates.

We help employers draft and review contracts and policies, advise on compliance, and represent clients when disputes arise. Get in touch if you would like us to review your documents.
